For Sara...

Liner Notes

For some reason, on 1 December 2025, I felt the need to call a special friend of mine. I'd not heard from Sara for a while and fancied a chat. My cockney mate always managed to brighten my day. Over the years, Sara had gifted me a considerable portion of her recorder collection, wanting them to have a good home where they would be loved and put to use. Her reason for passing them to me was that her health issues meant she was no longer able to play them. :-( On that night, we talked for about two hours, making each other laugh. And one of the things we shared (and laughed about) was that we both learned "Three Blind Mice" as the first piece of music on our tootlesticks as children. Our conversation ended when Sara's morphine kicked in and she was in danger of snoring at me down the phone.

Two days later I got the message that Sara had closed her eyes for the final time.

This one is an improvisation. I sat in my studio this morning with one of her recorders and a flute, opened my heart, closed my eyes... and this happened.

Rest easy now, Sara love. May your ripples never fade.

The recorders in this montage are just some of the tootlesticks that Sara passed to me for safekeeping. #fipplingforfawm

You've taken a melody and made it your own. I was already aware of the story and despite it having a sadness and deep meaning for you, it inspires and uplifts at the same time

The song and your story are beautiful! The things we go through in this wondrous yet deeply disturbing, and must accept life. My condolences for your loss.

Condolences for your loss. You play through and with the sadness beautifully. Very touching and somber. I had a moment while listening. Just the melancholy and the feeling of something permanently lost hanging in the air.

It's a magical and sad recorder composition. Everything about the story behind the tune comes pouring out...and I feel the pain of your loss. Outstanding tribute to a kindred soul.

@lcad

A beautiful tribute. The way you weave in the melody is lovely and the whole piece has a very traditional, English melody running through. Deep condolences for your loss

you're an amazing talent. you and sara were lucky to be in each other's lives. this is a beautiful piece. my mind is always blown by your massive talent. you took three blind mice (one of the earnestly dopest and influential melodies ever) and transformed it completely. much love and even more respect.
