Love Of A Woman - Comments First

Liner Notes
So, this was a ride. #commentsfirst The comments of record: From @kc_ 22h Holy Shamoly! I don't know how you do it! This is killer!! In a "good" killer kind of way! From @nadine 22h I never considered you to create a dark country song, and this harmonica is giving me the extra chill. From @nahlej381 19h I always love a 6/8 time signature. Just has that magic rolling kinda vibe to it. Well done From @artie 19h Great juxtaposition! The fart noises were surprising.
So, I had mention of dark country, the phrase "good" killer, 6/8 time sig, harmonica and flatulance..
I set my "drummer" to 6/8 - pretty sure I didn't stay there (but in my world time signatures are mythical š) My dark country seemed to be heading for spaghetti western...and I don't think I got there either... I did sneak in a harmonica! And "a "good" killer kind of way" gave me my central character. Though I gave passing thought to some Blazing Saddles, I failed in drawing in fart noises.. š¬
Anyway - it was fun - scratch vocals (didn't even swap out my harp mic), and the lyrics are certainly not final draft - but I was taken by this character and his story, and may meet up with him again at some point. Thanks to all my commenters!
Lyrics
Kill the fire, on the trail 'for the light clears the canyon rim A new start, with first light, as he tries to shed his skin Things he saw, in that town, left a mark on his very soul Time has come, where he's got to pay, a debt he owes
Was a time in his life where he wouldn't have given half a damn But the love of a woman changed what he thought made a man
His life was one of violence and pain, now he carries the shame All the things he's done in his life, there's no one to blame It's for her, he now rides, try to make amends After all the years in the saddle it's come down to this
All the men that he's killed for gold, never gave a damn But the love of a woman changed what he thought made a man
Sun is creeping low towards the canyon rim Things didn't go as planned - guess, it's just as well. Smell of blood hangs in the air, he has no fear As the sun kisses the rim, his mind is clear
Too many years in his life, never giving a damn But the love of a woman changed what he thought made a man

this is so fun! I love the comments you were dealt and how you tied them into the dark country story and song. Harmonica!- YES
Thanks - this was the kind of song, for me anyway, that could only come out of FAWM ā¤ļø Thanks for listening š¶
The trudging pace of the song really brings out the story. Three things gave me shiversāthe harmonica, the trumpet, and the eagle scream. They truly punctuated the song. I admire your restraint, using the harmonica only once. I kept wondering if it would make a second appearance.
Thank you for listening (and as a harp first, ask questions later kind of guy, it was an internal battle as to if I would add harmonica accents in the following verse chorus, but ultimately, the desire to keep it sparse won out) First time trying virtual trumpet⦠looking for that Good Bad Ugly vibe
I think you had the exact right amount of harpākeep them wanting more is a better approach than overplaying the hand. Well done.
Thanks! "Serve the song" first, and foremost, right? (although, I'm sure I'm not always correct, as to what does best serve it - glad to have some confirmation maybe I took the right road here)
Great juxtaposition! The fart noises were surprising.

Yes, THIS is dark. I love how you implemented the eagle scream and the harmonica. This sounds like a western. I'm not sure about the time signature. I sometimes hear 4/4 and sometimes 6/8. Anyways sounds cool!
