Just my quick take on the skirmish - reminded me of a lost love and a trip to a beautiful stone circle tucked away in the hills of Ireland many years ago.

I've been in rehearsal for a Shakespeare show and have had this minstrel / madrigal style music in my head and that is what I hear for this song. For now, lyrics only, though I may flesh it out further.

Lyrics

The Sun I Thought Would Shine

Yesterday the solstice came And the sun, I thought, would shine In the circle lined with ancient stone Where the flowers were softly lying

Where the grateful danced the night before For the sun, they thought, would shine Where I held my love, in naivete Unaware she was no longer mine

Oh kick up your heels to the flicker of flame For the wheel that brings us round again Sing “come by and by, round they sky” my friend Oh the sun, oh the sun must shine.

On the verdant hills, through a moss-grown path It was a sacred place through time I noticed not her eyes were set To horizons far from mine

Tomorrow knows a somber truth Of the love I thought would shine That the sun will set, and the heart’s regret Will reflect, and ache, and pine.

Oh kick up your heels to the flicker of flame For the wheel that brings us round again Sing “come by and by, round they sky” my friend Oh the sun, oh the sun must shine.

love the imagery of these lyrics, I could hear this as an easy-going mid-tempo folk/bluegrass thing. Looking forward to hear this one get put to music! 😁

I immediately get imagines of a bard singing this tune to a pub full of punters. Great imagery, and it makes me want to give the latest season the Witcher another chance.

Like the meter and subject - the imagery is so vivid - wonder if it would lend itself to celtic treatment? Love it!

Oh how poetic "Tomorrow knows a somber truth..." You're back, dude!

I hear the madrigal...the lute and the tambourine. Great imagery! Well done!

Wow, you should definitely continue this, I would love to hear it sung, it's so evocative.

Well-chosen words that vividly show a time, place, and mood. I like the way the repeated rhymes hint at a cycle of thinking that helps to define the moment.

To kick up one’s heels to the flicker of flame-such rich lyricism!

What a beautiful lyric, and what a beautiful image it paints. I do hope you put this to music.
