01: Tales of The Wizard of Oz

by @frozenlonesome

Liner Notes

This is the theme song from Tales of The Wizard of Oz. A trippy cartoon from 1961 that aired during lunch time on local television when I was a kid.

Quoting IMDB: This 150-episode series of shorts chronicles Dorothy's long stay in the land of Oz. The Munchkins are portrayed as tiny globs; the Scarecrow is a fool named Socrates; the Tin Woodman is a bully named Rusty; and the dandy Lion is called Dandy. The Wizard, who speaks like W.C. Fields, can perform little magic beyond card tricks. Nevertheless, Dorothy continually pressures the Wizard to send her home. A constant threat is posed by the solid-green Wicked Witch of the West, who tries to make the dragonette Desmond follow her orders and attack the group of friends, even though he has no malice toward them.

I am very familiar with most of Rankin/Bass work. Had no idea they made this lol. This is beautifully disturbing. I love how you slowly synced the theme in towards the end.

It’s definitely a weird one. Following your comment about your familiarity, I looked them up and realized that Rankin/Bass were far more influential on my childhood than I knew. I watched a lot of The New Adventures of Pinocchio as a kids and as a teenager. Glad you liked it. I felt that I needed to focus on the theme song at least once and know it’s kind of stuck in my brain.

How very weird. The sounds keep getting progressively demented in a wonderfully mind bending way. What a trip!

Hi William, nice to see you back and I look forward to hearing your new music. Glad you liked it!

So glad you’re back! Love how FAWM brings us all together year after year.

[pic]

I feel exactly the same way. FAWM is really my favourite time of the year.

@aeye

This was super trippy. The music and visuals really have a nice interplay here. Cool use of an old cartoon.

Glad you liked it. Trippy was what I was going for. I have a few more Oz videos coming up.

Oh wow! This caught me completely by surprise! It's so wonderfully surreal! I love what you've done here.

Glad you liked it!

@gm7

This is very spacey dreamy but more trippy that anything. I have no idea that the W. Oz could be incorporated into music like this...stellar stuff!

Cheers Garry. Curious, Tales of the Wizard of Oz aired on CTV. Do you remember it from when you were a child?

[pic]

Love the dreamy/nightmarish landscape you created here! Love the trippy feeling!

[pic]

Much appreciated and glad you enjoyed it. Stay tuned for more to come from Oz.

Always love your crazy cool finds and repurposing. The acid is flashing back a bit and I’m here for it. Missed you dude!

[pic]

Thanks so much! It’s great to be back and to be so welcomed!

I was not aware of this trippier-than-the-movie cartoon. I like how the layers build and get progressively trippier. The slow fade at the end is a nice touch.

Cheers Andy! It’s definitely one of the things from my childhood I remember, but had not seen for years and years until I stumbled across it on archive.org I have more planned using it as source material.

This is educational as well as reflective, two components I love in a song. Love the experimental nature of this!

Thanks Matt.

There's a lot of cool stuff going on in this mix! Wow. A real treat for the ears!

Cheers Alex! Happy FAWM. Going to listen to your song next.
