Liner Notes

Yikes! That took me a long time! And I still need a verse or two. BUT on the plus side, I like the transition to the chorus-y part. I was trying to make it Irish and jiggy (6/8) but I kind of lost that feel. There's hope for this little song yet....

Update: So I scraped together another couple verses and a bit of a story. Updated recording attached. Not too bad. My voice is a little creaky but you get the idea.

Moving on to the next song. It feels like I spend a couple hours finding a melody and idea I like, than another couple cleaning it up and finishing. I get the feeling this FAWM is going to be like pulling teeth. Guess I needed it!

Lyrics

He was walking into town, thru new fallen snow Someone soon had past, he saw where their feet did go Prints so small and dainty, seemed to dance along Thru the quiet woods he heard her song

Could he was mistaken, did ears lead him astray Was that a happy wood lark, that bright St Bridget’s day? He hasten thru the woods, to see what was the answer There beside the old oak he saw her

CHORUS The old ways they are a comfort Sure and steady and true For a day to be worth living It must have a touch of new

Hair golden like the sun, reddest lips in the county “Girl you are so fair, rare is such beauty A fellow would be lucky, truly so young Miss To have from you a fine and loving kiss

Sir you do presume, I find that I do flush But bold may be rewarded, I do accept your touch She thru her arms around him, gave all that he craved There beneath the oak that winter’s day

CHORUS The old ways they are a comfort Sure and steady and true For a day to be worth living It must have a touch of new

In the coming spring, warm wind blowing free He walked again to town, to that same oak tree Who should be waiting, pretty girl so kind He thought they might be of a mind

“My Dear the road is long, and the day so hot Shall we rest again in this shady spot?” Sir “I see nothing new here, I must be to town.” She smiled and turned around and shje was gone

CHORUS The old ways they are a comfort Sure and steady and true For a day to be worth living It must have a touch of new

Thoroughly entertaining and engaging storytelling in the classic folk style!

Well worth the wait! I think you met your goal of an Irish ballad (and if you'd like a version with penny whistle and bodhran added, let's chat). I really like that 2nd verse "Hair golden like the sun..."

Has the feel of a classic folk song for sure. Nicely written.

Lovely storytelling in song. Novelty is certainly fuel for inspiration, a touch of new to be true!

Was hoping so hard that last line would be "you" but I'm glad to be surprised nonetheless. Great job!

Lovely guitarplaying and songwriting. Didn't get all the lyrics though (looking forward for the text). Happy fawming!

Lovely. I love the easy part of it and referring back to Bridget's Day. We all need that grounding in this crazy world now!

This song has such a lovely feel to it, made me smile. The transition definitely works well, and I really enjoy the sentiment too. Happy first of FAWM!
