Retrossance

Challenge: MADE-UP WORDSLiner Notes
So, yeah... I have an album titled Retrossance. But the very first FAWM challenge was:
"Made Up Words: Write a song using some words you invented.
Examples: “Sussudio” (Phil Collins), “Femininomenon” (Chappell Roan), “Californication” (Red Hot Chili Peppers) “Pressurelicious” (Megan Thee Stallion)"
..and I had this awesome made-up word already, so I wrote the song. I'm lucky in that I get to make music for a living, so I have a lot of tools at my disposal. That said, I can't guarantee that everything I post for FAWM will be this produced (though this still need a lot of work.)
Lyrics
The time has come to light the fire with my guitar, My frozen prefrontal cortex, melt. The time is now, to celebrate my scars And trade the filtered for the felt.
Can’t feel a heart beat through your wifi, AI You can’t autocorrect a soul. Silence is perfect, but the noise is where we live, It’s time to take back some control…
Time for a Retrossance, Formation and creation, where we do more than just type and prompt and scroll. Retrossance, Transfusion, revolution where we take some of the new back to the old And start again…
It’s time to watch the forward motion in my rearview As I drive in a self driving world It’s time to for me to resurrect the rough draft The irritant that causes the pearl…
There’s just no rhythm in your algorithm There are no happy accidents Silence is perfect, but the noise is where we live, Between the past and present tense…
Time for a Retrossance, Formation and creation, where we do more than just type and prompt and scroll. Retrossance, Transfusion, revolution where we take some of the new back to the old And start again…
It’s time to overwrite the “Final” version. It’s time to learn to make some new mistakes. Remake the future from our childhood bedrooms, Build back the things we threw away…
Time for a Retrossance, Formation and creation, where we do more than just type and prompt and scroll. Retrossance, Transfusion, revolution where we take some of the new back to the old Time for a Retrossance, Formation and creation, where we do more than just type and prompt and scroll. Retrossance, Transfusion, revolution where we take some of the new back to the old And start again… And start again… And start again.

Thank you!
This is the perfect song I want to hear in my breakfast... upbeat, catchy... Re-tro-ssance... !!
I will be humming this for a while
I love this. I hear a baritone voice for it, no? Men Without Hats kinda thing?
It's such a great word. And a timely idea!
I've been trying to write more for my lower range instead of staying up high all the time. Getting older, and I know what (historically) happens to voices...
well you got me on the intro! a really good lyric that is carried along so well by the music! The chorus is splendid. So damned catchy . excellent song
Damn… your songs speak directly to my soul so often it’s not even funny
Fittingly this song totally takes me back to the 90s. Instant earworm!
Thanks! I wanted it to have a retro feel in different ways but with some modern lyrics.
Great write Mikey. Love "there is no rhythm in your algorithm".
I dug that line, too. That one, "silence is perfect, but the noise is where we live," and "trade the filtered for the felt" alone made this song so worth the writing.
Dig your style in this song. Reminds me of the Bare Naked Ladies. Nice arrangement as well!
Thank you! The last song I wrote before FAWM started reminded me of BNL, so maybe I'm in a groove (totally not a rut!). It's a comparison/compliment I'm happy to get!
Trading the filtered for the felt... you've said it all. I love the way your made-up word rolls off the tongue, and I really enjoyed the arrangement of this track with that soft piano melody in the second chorus. Your drumming is killer too!
Thanks! I use EZ Drummer (I can keep a beat, but I'm no drummer. I do like the control EZ Drummer gives me over the output, though.)
Oh this is fantastic, amen. So many banger lines here: "You can't autocorrect a soul", "The irritant that causes the pearl", "It’s time to learn to make some new mistakes" – wow. I think the word Retrossance may have just permanently entered my vocabulary.
