The World in a Phrase
Liner Notes
basically two song ideas mashed together: a funky, post-punky verse married to a sunshiney, poppy (but not necessarily sunshine pop...) chorus. the lyrics were meant to be stream-of-consciousness but largely ended up reflecting my actual feelings about the world lol
i think i wrote a pretty good chorus but my hoarse vocals kind of ruin it a bit :/ anyone want to get me in touch with that guy from the lemon twigs so he can sing it instead
i had a lot of fun recording the piano and bass parts if you can't tell
Lyrics
[verse 1] There will always be stones left unturned No matter how often you make your return Miracles can happen to the faint of the heart Burn his foolish letters asking for a new start
[verse 2] Romanticizing crooks write history Fantasizing books cause misery Showering affections on a lost Atlantis With no one really knowing what the hell the plan is
[chorus] Lately I can't help but notice How the world is out-of-phase with what I say But I still recognize it's Moot to summarize the world in a phrase
[post-chorus] Yeah, what good does it do To summarize the reasons that I disagree with you

This is sooooo groovy, especially the bass, but the piano! And the chorus is just great. The falsetto at the right time
Hell yes, that bassline is absolutely peak! Really love the piano playing too, might have to learn this one for myself! 😁
Oh man, the bass is so delightfully playful! This is such a joy to listen to this morning, thank you for sharing it!
Love the strong bass running through this. The progression gives me some Steely Dan vibes but the production feels much more modern. It's a good bop, my toes are tapping. Love the opening line
This is a cool song. If it gets another rendition from ya, I think the chorus should have tambourine and extra things :) In summary, this is clangin.
THAT CHOOOORUS omggg and that bassline. you're a bass god, lesley.
What a great vibe, the bass work is awesome, really propels the whole song forward.
sounding really good :3 that bassline is exactly what i want always. wonderful chorus melody
