This Is The Present, Enjoy It While It Lasts

Liner Notes
Here's something well within my wheelhouse just to get the gears moving again. I had big plans of making tonnes of lush layered twinkly guitars, but I spent way too long redoing one bit and so it time to settle for this and move on.
Back in 2010 I did a song called "Rainy Days Playing Board Games" which I have only recently started playing live, and it has a tuning that I don't use for any other songs in my set, so for this reason including it in my set is a pain in the bottom. I'm gonna try and use that tuning for a bunch of things this year so I can play "Rainy Days" without having to retune mid-set.
I will complain, not for the last time, about having to DI my guitars in this apartment with paper thin walls. The clean guitars sound alright, but the distortion is baaad. The upshot of this is I'll need to book some studio time to do the guitars properly later, and then charge you cashmoney to hear the good versions mwuhahaha

Oh, and there's a fictional complementary Kitkat for anyone who can name the movie that the title references.
Lyrics
A moment's escape, coffee break Waking up to you The nightshift's over For another day
One moment I can see There's mischief dancing in your eyes Then suddenly you're lost And far away
Why do I get bored of everything Except what destroys me A road to nowhere that I want to be It's hard to ignore the glow inside When you look at me I know it's nothing but a fantasy
I burn my fingers And lick my wounds So many moments That disappear so fast Tomorrow's waiting for you In the other room This is the present Enjoy it while it lasts
Forever blinded by the glaring lights In the other lane Whatever happens is A mystery
Like a lover who comes to you Then goes to someone else The price of being free is jealousy
Why do I get bored of everything Except what destroys me A road to nowhere that I want to be It's hard to ignore the glow inside When you look at me I know it's nothing but a fantasy
I burn my fingers And lick my wounds Fear of the future Refuge in the past Tomorrow's waiting for you In the other room This is the present Enjoy it while it lasts I burn my fingers And lick my wounds So many moments That disappear so fast Tomorrow's waiting for you In the other room This is the present Enjoy it while it lasts

Gah, I love your mixes. All your guitars sound great to me! That chorus is a tubthumping sing-along if I ever heard one, a real indie anthem. A live version of this would have a breakdown of the final chorus, you holding the mic out to the crowd, bellowing "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"
It always amazes me how some talented people like you can put up an entire production with so many instruments so quickly. Has a wonderful British 80's rock feel. Great work!
Hey Pete. Man what a great intro. Such thickness and power rolling through. Reminds me of Mock Orange the part after you sing the main title. Killer outdo as well. I always love your production man. Sounds great to me and awesome first tune!
Guitars sound pretty damn good to me, there's a nice shoegazey haze to them (absolutely not going to complain if you come back with an even better version post-studio though obviously). This is classic you, excellent first track to blow away the cobwebs. No idea what the title references. Since Jed opened the conversation I'd like to say that my favourite "Blosty cut" is Not In A Movie and request another @frenchcricket collab this year pls xx
Fun fact, rainy days playing board games might be my favourite Blosty cut. Those waaaaah-waaaahs hit hard! Anyway, this is a DIFFERENT song which is nowhere near as good, JK I like it a lot, this is clearly a winning guitar tuning for you. Like how the song just blasts into being with those crunchy guitars and then settles into a lovely jangly groove. That final “I burn my fingers” chorus is great too. Great start!
So true. What a great song all around, and the message is spot on. Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed the lyric very much! (No disrespect to the music, meant, good job there, too) Especially loved the lines: "I burn my fingers And lick my wounds" and "the price of being free is jealousy". Thank you!
Very well made, sounds like an undiscovered gem from the 80's. Have some of the energy of the poppier Husker Du tracks in it. Really like the vocal and the catchiness of the whole thing. Would maybe be nice with doubled vocals or an additional musical element in the chorus to make it stand out more. I think the jangly guitars sound great, could be higher in the mix!
