i hate it here

Liner Notes
struggling a bit. this was going to be an "I hate my job" song but it works for winter, living in the uk, living in the world, etc.
Lyrics
it's a pretty sick sensation having to get up every day I'm wishing hibernation was part of our dna
I don't know where I'm going it's the darkest part of the year I'm looking for some sunshine i hate it here
I know that i'll feel better if I just get out of bed perhaps I'll just roll over and embrace the void instead
I don't know where I'm going it's the darkest part of the year I'm looking for a way out i hate it here
did the groundhog see his shadow? are we still stuck in time? if I don't draw the curtains then I guess I won't see mine

This is an excellent song, and I really enjoyed it. The banjo groove you've got here is so excellent and chill. Great for the lyrical content. Your vocal also fits right into the general vibe you've created. As for the groundhog, yes, he saw his shadow. Screw that little weasel anyway.
Ah dude I want to hibernate during winter too… we already get groceries delivered to our home, and I’d be perfectly okay with just staying home. The banjo sounds great, and this is such a relatable song, seriously. Hang in there!!
That banjo sounds really lovely and sits in the mix beautifully. There are some great melodic twists and turns in this one too. Lyrics are strong and relatable. Great opener - I really enjoyed this.
Oh that banjo brings such a tangibly earthy texture to the song. It goes great with the sweeter, brighter guitar. Love the warbly synth tones too, a bit like a slack mellotron, which gives the whole thing a dark and dreamy 70s feel. The lyric is so f***in relatable.
Ohh I do love a sombre banjo. Those picked arpeggios are a dream. In fact, there's a whole daydreamy quality to this which gives an air of hope despite the subject matter. It's the perfect bedrock for those lyrics, it's so wistful.
This is really great. I dig the downbeat vibes to kick us off. The chords are nice and the banjo adds cool texture to counter the dreamy guitars. The music evokes a frosty morning perfectly. I like how you mixed the synth solo into an otherwise folky arrangement. It's like it shouldn't work but it does. I think the last verse/line is my favourite.
Might be the first time I've ever heard a banjo work with a synth. Nice.
Anyone combining synths and banjo has my immediate attention and respect ✊
I love the lilt in the melody even through the dreariness here. I think hope is in our DNA even if hibernation isn’t.
Lovely progression - almost like a feelgood song contrasted by the lyrics. Great
I dunno if it's just the banjo throwing me or the relentless wallowing (in a good way!) but there's a bit of an REM feel to this. You've picked up the banjo so quickly, and it goes so unexpectedly well with those lovely siren synths. It's unfortunate that I really love your miserysongs because I don't love your miserylife.
The banjo sounds great! Sounds really fresh and interesting in this non-traditional type of arrangement. Also, I love the wonky synth solo, that sound is so good. (Also, did I ever tell you about the groundhog in the next town over who bit the mayor’s ear on Groundhog Day? It was pretty iconic, go Jimmy!)
Hard to listen to. Not cos it's bad, just cos I hate it here too. Good work, as always.
Oh yeah, I know this feeling well. You’ve captured the UK winter perfectly here, but with a dreamy musical backdrop. Great stuff!
Agreed 1000%, f*c& working during winter. Very soothing & pretty to listen to, love the plucking of the banjo contrasted with the more drawn out guitar/synth sounds.
I was going to say - Mournful banjo but @catmisgivings beat me to it. This defiantly has a vibe, melancholic but also somehow a comforting hug at the same time.
Mournful banjo! &I really like the synth part. Perfect day for a groundhog reference. I am finding the lyrics really relatable.
I don't know what you've thrown into this sonic stew, but I love it. It's the most delicious sort of melancholia. Dang, that last line hits pretty hard. (Ryanair can probably get you to Spain for not much money
I can sympathise. Strongly. Sometimes, just getting out of bed is a major challenge, but I always feel better when I manage to do so. Just so long as there's coffee. If it's any consolation, you've channelled that feeliing into a really beautiful song. I love the synth solo!
The promised banjo rearing its head early doors! It sounds lovely so well done on that, the whole thing is lovely in that melancholy, downtrodden way of the best Grandaddy songs (it doesn’t actually sound that Lytle-y so maybe it’s the banjo just making me think of Blu Wav). That woozy doubled synth solo is great too. Sorry your job continues to be shit but this is a very nice subdued scream about it
I resonate so hard with the lyrics, and I love the groundhog call out! I made a depressing groundhog track last year. I also enjoy your string work. Love the little burst of light before the final verse.
Love the addition of the banjo to your arsenal. This sounds very accomplished and the clean strumming guitars against the banjo fit perfectly. Really needed to hear this as I am have a shocker of a week and it makes me feel less alone.
