Microfamous

Challenge: MADE-UP WORDSLiner Notes
I worry that this will come off as strictly an indictment or condemnation. It's not... While there are things about the way media and fame work today that I'm not fond of, it's not inherently better or worse than the way things used to be. So this is really just an observation of how things have changed since I was young. I do not mean in anyway to glorify that time (though it's tempting to paint that as a prettier, better time, it simply wasn't. Nostalgia goggles and whitewash aren't strong enough to gloss over that kind of taint.)Anyway... Here's a (very underproduced) bit of social commentary no one asked for from an old, CIS/HET white guy. #acoustic #poppunk #challenge #nerdrock
Lyrics
A different time, a different place, a different kind of social haze The marquee wouldn’t change for a hundred eighty days We used to have kings and queens up on our silver screen Before the world got small and still split at the seam
Then the wires got tangled and the constellations cracked We traded in legends for new kinds of hack Just swipe your thumb and the signal won’t stop On the new microstars in their new daily drops
Do you remember
The anthem, the test tone, the star on the screen One nation, three stations, and nothing between Now we’re all microfamous on little screens of glass And the touchstones fade just a little too fast… (And it’s click, scroll, repeat… Click, scroll, repeat…)
We used to drop names written large in the sky No we’re watching our phones as the world goes by A thousand little headlines for a minute and a half A predictive punchline with pre-recorded laugh
Do you remember
The anthem, the test tone, the star on the screen One nation, three stations, and nothing between Now we’re all microfamous on little screens of glass And the touchstones fade just a little too fast… (And it’s click, scroll, repeat… Click, scroll, repeat…
There are no more anthems to sing us to sleep We drown in the shallow instead of the deep end And context is dead and the broadcast won’t end Just another viral video again and again
Do you remember
The anthem, the test tone, the star on the screen One nation, three stations, and nothing between Now we’re all microfamous on little screens of glass And the touchstones fade just a little too fast…
Do you remember the anthem, the star on the screen One nation, three stations, and everything between Now we’re all microfamous on little screens of glass And the touchstones fade just a little too fast… (And it’s click, scroll, repeat… Click, scroll, repeat…)

On point man, really dig the guitar tone. Harmony was excellent. Message is apropos to the time for sure. click scroll repeat is a great hook. Really nice work.
Got me singing along and head bobbing here... "microfamous" is a perfect word.
Very relevant. Its a great story of the history of technology. Vocal is crazy clear. Lyrics are on point. Nailed it. Now excuse me, ive got more scrolling to do...
I bloody love it. My fave line - “we drown in the shallow instead of the deep end”…gave me a shiver!
Thank you!
"And context is dead and the broadcast won’t end" turns the knife both clockwise AND then counterclockwise as I doomscroll too many news sources
I'm right there with you.
Heck yes.
