Skirmish: Humour in Despair (@unownedart)Liner Notes
Great Prompt! I've been told on several occasions that "I think everything's a joke..." It's not?
This pretty silly but fun to write, was a stream of consciousness that came about only due to @unownedart 's prompt from! Thanks unownedart!!
Lyrics
Where Oh Where is the Christmas Cheer
V I Lost heat on the coldest day Got colder, then colder, guess that’s the way Snow wrapped roof helps keep us warm Or radiate cold all the way down
Finally, the temps break 32, oh… Sun’s out to help Get rid of the snow though
C Where Oh Where is the Christmas Cheer I can surely say it ain’t over here
V II The water that seeps After its winter sleep And the 8 tiny reindeer that jingle
Find the hoof print holes One from each sole Who were Pulling old jolly Kris Kringle
V III O peace of the manger A love to desire A babe in the straw The night light’s on fire
The wiseman and Mary Joseph so still Conflagration is spreading And looking to kill
C Where Oh Where is the Christmas Cheer I can surely say it ain’t over here
V IV The bucket brigade Sloshes and splash Trips the breaker And creates sodden Ash
The stockings hung By the chimney with care Singed light marshmallow brown Aren’t worse for the wear
V V And now that it’s legal No need to hide Rolled a big fatty We all stared and sighed
Yes, nodded and stared Each taking a toke Looked and laughed all together At life’s (luck-and or Christmas ) joke
Where O where is the Christmas cheer Wrapped in the absurd and things that we fear

Great opening - just some brilliant imagery that you created. The rhymes are great too - not so easy to do that in the time frame of a skirmish! I think this song is far more serious that it thinks it is.
Oh... Best verse imo is the peace of the manger one. Love it!
Nice! A Christmas song, sometimes I do a prompt for non-February holidays so we all have an excuse to do stuff not common to February. So yea, I appreciate this for the variety even if it is still a cold part of the year song ❄
"A babe in the straw The night light’s on fire" What a cracking couplet!
This has a depth that smoulders underneath its apparent humour. It has echoes of 1965 Dylan for an oldie like me! 😁
OMG you are cracking me up so hard. That chorus. And the ending of the story. I really hope somebody makes this into some kind of Christmas carol jingly bell sort of thing. I'm not the one for it but holy crap this is hilarious.
Great to see a Christmas song on FAWM., although as they go this is rather .... different. I hope you had a smuch fun writing this as I did reading it.
