No Greater Love
Liner Notes
I take a lot of probably blasphemous inspiration from my strained relationship with faith as a result of growing up in a very devout household and then mostly walking away from it in adulthood. The concept for this song is the message and person of Jesus as an entitled narcissist. No offense is meant. It's just a thing I think about a lot. Yes, there was a siren outside that got into the very end...which annoyed me until it sort of made sense in the context of a threatening lover.
Lyrics
i'm making history the world is all mine i'm taking credit i get the by-line i'm making history just you wait and see everyone will fall for me
those other guys are telling stories i don't mean to sermonize but they're so boring those other guys are no good, mon-ami you know you're gonna fall for me
it wouldn't hurt you (to be a little more) i'd never hurt you (give me a little more) never desert you (just be a little more) but you have no greater love for me
my daddy's rich and i'm looking so fine i'm gonna have a ball and everything will be mine my daddy's rich and i deserve it all, you see i think you better fall for me
i've got a mansion up in the hills now i've got substantially more than my fill now i've got a mansion but you can't live there for free no, you've got to fall for me

Thanks! I admit I tend to go overboard with delay most of the time, so I never know.
Never has blasphemy sounded more joyful. The lyrics definitely fit with a narcissistic view of the world - had an early Paul Simon vibe to me.
Very catchy. Well done.
Feels exceedingly like my past relationship with a guy I eventually had to press charges against. You really captured that idea of honeyed words to cover a deep narcissism!
This is very cool. If I hadn't read the liner notes I would not necessarily have picked Jesus as the subject. It has the kind of depth that enables the listener to find their own meaning in it. And the bouncy lilt is way nice too.
This is super tightly written, no fat to trim whatsoever. Love the hint of sincerity in the chorus that balances the snarkiness out really well. One thing I'd say is the heavy delay on the chorus background vocals was a little jarring.
Love a narrator I hate. Great choice with the vox fx on the chorus, and tasteful, clean solo!
