Thief of Joy
Liner Notes
FAWM TIME. LET'S GO.
I had this chord progression kicking around for a little while and was waiting until February to give it the proper song treatment. It's supposed to sound like a harpsicord-steel guitar-mandolin type thing. Ultimately I just layered some keyboard sounds to make it work. I really enjoyed writing the melody and trying to keep things simple for this one.
I wanted to get this one out there since my next tune is going to take a little while to complete. Hope you enjoy!
Lyrics
Always a trophy Sometimes applause Even in moments where life seems to pause He is here, sitting in your tree
The shade he resides Is a terrible fate Bound to obsessions so make no mistake You must learn, how to catch your thief
Dancing around with a song in your head Only goes so far hung by a thread And the face of the struggle wins out in the end over word
It's hard standing idle When all else will move There's always a marker but you get to choose If it's yours, or someone else's place
Seeking approval Among the right star Searching for something that's not who you are You will find, it's not all it seems Yes you'll find, a welcomed thief
Spun right around with the song in your head Strong as the spider who tangles the web To capture the moments you wanted instead for your world
Now is the time where you set the bar Gone are the days where you watched from afar Take solace in pride and show them who you are

I think you nailed that sound well. Sweet lullaby
I really enjoyed this in every way. I got an early Genesis vibe. Really sweet! Well done.
Absolutely dreamy and wonderful, but also appropriately mournful. That thief isn't going to win.
This has a lovely 60's vibe to it, yet thoroughly up-to-date sentiment.
Love the melody in this song! It kind of has studio ghilbi vibes too for some reason. Definitely cinematic to me. Great job and happy FAWM!
