Riptide

Liner Notes
#alternatetuning #sadbastardmusic forgot how to record. so, this is me remembering... sorta.
this is like going out on the new ice but forgetting you are a being of mass and you WILL fall through it.
Lyrics
I know it’s delicate, I knew all along I guess I just thought I had the right gloves Set the table it’s getting late; careful hold ain’t enough While spinning your plates gravity called my bluff
I’m sorry I tried to flow across your current I improvised; your waves were hills soft and verdant I thought I knew how to float but just sat wide-eyed While it pooled - dragged me under guess it was a riptide
When you talk to yourself you know who you are I guess I thought I could just be your mirror It’s not your fault you wear a mask -- a survival skill But I've been haunted long enough in this battle of wills
I’m sorry I tried to flow across your current I improvised; your waves were hills soft and verdant I thought I knew how to float but just sat wide-eyed While it pooled - dragged me under guess it was a riptide
It’s not that I didn’t want it I just thought I’d have more To give to give to give To give to give to give Forgive forgive forgive To give you, forgive me

No disclaimers needed on recording. This sounds so well produced!
What a cool chord change at “I’m sorry…” I really feel like the song breathes, or maybe more aptly, rides easy waves. Your vocals are so pretty and gentle, just perfect for this accompaniment 💚
You sound great and your recording chops are definitely still there!
Such a good chorus - and the subtle strings add so much too.
Wow, beautiful track, love your voice! The instrumentation is simply perfect! Which guitar tuning is it, would love to know?
Open C! CGCEGC — and thank you so much!
The chorus is so cool, so cool! I gritted my teeth, smiled, and bobbed my head immediately.
Remarkably, “Gritted my teeth, smiled, and bobbed my head” is the subtitle to my memoir!
I love the Lydian chorus chord! Those washes of piano add so much. Lovely song.
"Gravity calls my bluff" is a gorgeous lyric. Amazing tune and gorgeous recording, well done!
Beautiful! Reminds me of Jane Siberry somehow… and yes love that chorus too…
Never mad at a Jane Siberry ref! Thank you!
sounds like you're remembering how to record to me! :) Love the delicate layers behind and around the acoustic... and the dissonant-to-resolve chorus lines. Gorgeous.
Oh lovely fingerstyle - what an intro. I love how the vocal melody and the repeating guitar riff interact. Beautiful vocals and harmonies. Oh that jarring dissonance in your chorus and how you come in and out of it - nice!! Also great title - and the placement in the chorus - perfect.
What do I have to do to become a member of the sad bastard music community?
Just look in your heart, Felix.
The chorus is so haunting, I love the key and tone change - it's spooky and sad and I'm so here for it. Also sad bastard music is sending me. So so beautiful friend <3
Such a pretty tune. Loving the main guitar melody. It suits the song so perfectly with a balance of space and carefulness. Sweet vocals of course too.
