Liner Notes

Inspired by @writeandwrong's Sassy Oracle challenge ("Stop saying you're manifesting when you're really just daydreaming"), although I veered off a bit from the prompt. I wrote this on Feb. 2 but wasn't able to record until Feb 3.

Lyrics

Lost in a Dream ©️2026 - words and music by Sharon Stepler

I was standing at a crossroad on a vast and barren plain The sky was red above me and the [wind was full of pain No [other living creature was anywhere in sight

Two roads stretched out before me in straight diverging lines I had no map or compass and I couldn't read the signs I was lost and lonely and paralyzed with fright

Lost in a dream, lost in a dream

In desperation I cried out, "Which way should I go?" "One road leads to danger, the other one leads home." A disembodied voice called out, "The choice is yours alone"

All I could see was emptiness, looking left and right Where the roads might lead me was far beyond my sight The voice called out again, “It’s time for you to choose"

Lost in a dream, lost in a dream

[break ]

As I was agonizing over which path I should take The 6am alarm went off and startled me awake And I lay there wondering did I win or lose

Lost in a dream, lost in a dream Lost in a dream, lost in a dream

This is lovely. It has a 'somwhere in the mists of time (or a dream lol) feel to it. The soaring repetitive chorus is sublime. Your vocal is great and I'd say you really hit the brief. super 😄

Great job Sharon! I like the triplet feel and how it propels the story sonically - and then the melody and the fiddle soar over it with long tones - nice contrasts. Beautiful voice.

Careful with lyric shoe-horning and trying to make everything fit - if you find yourself ‘forcing’ lyrics, maybe find another way of saying the same thing so it fits the rhythm.
