Spoiler

Liner Notes
Writing as many songs as I do, I've collected tons of writing prompts over the years. I tend to pull them out, either when I'm struggling or when I'm on extreme deadlines like FAWM. Here's one (which I might have lifted from a previous FAWM prompt form somewhere. I don't know where it came from):
Write a song from your current self to yourself exactly ten years in >the past or ten years in the future. You must include one "spoiler" >and one piece of advice
Using that prompt and without an instrument at hand, I wrote this song in the waiting room of the eye doctor's office, waiting for my wife, Jody. My friend Mike Hind posted a great FAWM song using only the native "instruments" in Logic Pro, and since I'd only played this song once (for Jody, less than 10 minutes before I sat down to record it [SPOILER: I cried... She said that historically means I've written a song that will connect with others...]) I decided to try the same thing. I like it, but I'm not giving up my guitar.
Lyrics
I hope this letter finds you well, It’s being written by yourself But from the future years from where you are.
And there are things that you need to know, Places that you need to go, People you should keep on your radar.
But there are rules that I must follow And t hough it might ring hollow, You have a future’s all that I can say.
But Spoiler, it won’t be what you’re expecting And spoiler it won’t only be good news But spoiler all the dreams you keep collecting Reflect on you.
I know this letter might not be Exactly what you think you need But I’ve lived ten more years inside your shoes
It seems small consolation, though It tells you all you need to know You’re still around, although you might be bruised
And every loss get rougher, And every win gets tougher, But still within your reach more every day.
But Spoiler, it won’t be what you’re expecting And spoiler it won’t only be bad news But spoiler all poison you’re collecting’s Affecting you.
Cause we all want what we want And we all need what we need But we don’t always know what we don’t know…
We all feel what we feel And we all bleed how we bleed But we don’t always know just how far we’re able to go…
But Spoiler, it won’t be what you’re expecting And spoiler it won’t only be bad news But spoiler all poison you’re collecting’s Affecting you. But Spoiler, it won’t be what you’re expecting And spoiler it won’t only be good news But spoiler all the dreams you keep collecting Reflect on you.
Reflect on you.

You and me both… And thank you.
In a very literal sense “all poison you’re collecting’s affecting you” is such a relatable thing every time I try to quit drinking. Beautifully sung, too
