Inside Outside Upside Down

Liner Notes
Wrote this one last night thinking about the bomb that got thrown by a white nationalist into a crowd of First Nations folks in Boorloo/Perth on invasion day and the lack of public outcry about this, which made me think of all the First Nations kids in prison and the lack of public outcry about this, especially in the NT where I spent the last couple of years living, which then made me think of the profit before people selling off of the land by the government to private industry like mining and cotton growers and the lack of public outcry about this.
In a way I think the repetition of words is an effort to link these three things together (they are all a symptom of colonial capitalist systems). Hopefully it's a call to action to us all to wake up from our comfortable slumber of our privilege and come together in love for a better world for everyone.
I got Punch Brothers vibes from the manic mandolin part and also the switch to more gentle vibes the B section, I'm looking forward to developing and arranging this song for the band.
Lyrics
Inside outside upside down They’re throwing bombs in your hometown Hold your head up and look around Before this hate cuts us all down
Inside outside upside down They’re locking kids up in your hometown Hold your head up and look around Before this fear cuts us all down
Inside outside upside down They’re lining their pockets in your hometown Hold your head up and look around Before this greed cuts us all down
When will we see Only love can heal our dis-ease When will we learn Only love can soothe this hurt When will we see Only love can set us free
Definitely giving punch bros vibes in the best way. I like the long sweeping vocal lines over the quick mandolin. Absolutely gorgeous and visceral. You really encompass the emotion of the issue so well in the song. 🥹
