What a Gift
Liner Notes
I'm in the habit of starting FAWM with a #FirstFruits offering to the muses / spirits of song, so it felt appropriate to do the same thing for this sprint.
I've been doing more writing this year, in large part because I've been able to take songwriting classes - it's easier for me to stay in the habit if I have a community and some friendly peer pressure around it. I've been thinking a lot lately about how much of a difference it makes for my mental health when I'm making music regularly, and how easy it is to let that particular form of self care slide to the back burner. So this is also about that.
Lyrics
It's so easy to forget As soon as I stop doing it How much my spirit benefits From putting pen to paper From strumming my guitar From singing silly nonsense From opening my heart

When I was a kid I knew I was a poet Adulthood almost broke it The part of me that needs to play The part that has no fear The part that is creative The part that wants the world to hear

I totally relate to those first 2 lines! Lovely fingerstyle playing and vocals. Nice use of repetition with the title line. I think it is also such a gift to be able to capture moments, feelings, and what was going on in your life as you look back. The songs are like a diary.
woah... i feel this a lot. the guitar arpeggios sound amazing.
i nominate this for the theme song of this july sprint. it capsulates and expresses what it is all about.
Great first fruits! What a gift it is to write a song is right! I completely agree with you on forgetting that from time to time and viewing it as work
