A Park Out in The West

Skirmish: fold (@melodic)

Liner Notes

My first song for Song Sprint and my first Skirmish! Decided not to use the word "fold" and was inspired by the definitions instead and came up with this song.

#skirmish #acousticonetake

Lyrics

it started with a letter little postcard from a park out in the west you were looking for some canyons to photograph and sleep inside a tent and i should've known better then that you were gone

it had been a long time since I last heard you were traveling down the road i thought you'd hit a dead end and hoped that made you want to come back home and i should've known better then that you were gone

i tried before, to find you somehow and I found you there, in some quiet town and i asked you then, to follow me and you said no, just let me be and I should've known i should've known better than to let you go

it started with the mornings held on to one another oh so tight and though the sun was shining i still saw the sadness in your eyes and i should've known better then that you were gone

it ended on your birthday i thought we'd celebrate it for the night i baked you your favorite but you went to bed without a single bite and i should've known better then that you were gone

i tried before, to find you somehow and I found you there, in some quiet town and i asked you then, to follow me and you said no, just let me be and I should've known i should've known better than to let you go

it ended with a headline a hiker found dead in a park out in the west cause of death uncertain i cried because i knew before they did and i should've known better than to let you go and now i know and i should've known better than to let you go

This reminds me of "Homeward Bound" by Simon & Garfunkel. Really cool chord changes that surpass that song. Nice!

I like your response to the prompt, and that you didn’t actually use the word “fold.” I especially like the flow and melody at “i still saw the sadness in your eyes and i should've known better then that you were gone” — how you land slightly and hold on “then.” Beautiful!

Aww, this is so lovely. Heartbreaking and upbeat at the same time, such a soft and welcoming melody.

Nice tapping beat! I like the held back vocal - sort of countyfied Elliot Smith/ Nice song very well skirmished
