Lustral Blood in a Paper Cup

Liner Notes

#acoustic I generally think it's better to say something cryptic and be thought a fool than to explain and remove all doubt. But since Bill asked about the meaning of lustral, I'll take an ill-advised stab at explanation: Lustral (adjective): relating to or used in ceremonial purification. I was thinking about the massacres in Mallorca in 1936, but I suppose every act of revolutionary or reactionary violence could be seen as an act of purifying love, inasmuch as it is motivated by a vision of the past or the future deemed to be worth fighting for. While looking up a precise definition of lustral, I came across this poem by Emile Verhaeren, which seems to gesture toward the same idea:

In hours like these, when through our dream of bliss
So far from all things not ourselves we move,
What lustral blood, what baptism is this
That bathes our hearts, straining toward perfect love?

Alternate titles: Mallorca, 1936 Mallorca, 1391 Mallorca, 1691

Lyrics

Sedentary drivelers With mouths for ears Casuists and scribblers My cudgel leers Lustral blood in a paper cup Everybody knows you can’t love too much My left hand knows what my right hand does Everybody [hopes] you can’t love too much

Love is in the air! Love is in the air!

Lustral blood in paper cup Everybody [hopes] you can’t love too much

An intriguing and beautiful song borne by talent endorsed by decades. Only you could create a lustrous gem like this, my friend. Well done. Hugs.

I can not follow the idea that voilence is an act of love. But maybe i misunderstood your liner notes?

The performance is gentle and soft - and all in your style. I really like the line: Lustral blood in a paper cup The image is powerful!
