Easy and Lowbrow
Liner Notes
The #horseshownames challenge thread included the name “Dark and Stormy,” which is also one of my favorite cocktails, so I spun off from there.
Lyrics only for now. Eventually will add melody and chords, but open to #collab versions!
Lyrics
We played Hungry Hungry Hippos While we waited at the jerk shack This despite one broken hippo Who just wouldn’t move to chomp
We drank frozen Dark and Stormies That were heavy on the ginger beer I brought up the circumstances, Which were light on pomp
Love me without ceremony I don’t need a thing We got paper napkins I don’t need the rings I get tired of symbols And I don’t like vows I think our trash is treasure anyhow Yeah, I’d rather love you easy and lowbrow
We live in a sort of shoebox It’s cheery and it’s cheap In the gap between the paychecks We eat grits
When we’ve got it we don’t flaunt it And we’re not the type for speeches But I’ve looked around a lot And this is it
BRIDGE Platitudes, they don’t improve my attitudes I’d rather you just show me than dress something up all showy And for me, making it formal is just weird; it isn’t normal When we go on vacation, we don’t pack the ostentation
Love me without ceremony I don’t need a thing We got paper napkins I don’t need the rings I get tired of symbols And I don’t like vows I think our trash is treasure anyhow Yeah, I’d rather love you easy and lowbrow
Yeah, I’d rather love you easy and lowbrow.
I like the “attitude” of this. It’s not about the frills. The last verse brings it all home with finesse, flair and style! Let me know when you add the music.
