I Shall Not Flinch

Liner Notes
Last year I wrote three Dracula inspired songs, so I thought one more would make an EP... This one is for Quincey Morris. Not one of the better known characters, but an important one nevertheless. It's #ukulele based #horrorfolk, a genre I've just made up. I suppose it's also #filk.
One of my favourte things about Dracula is the improbably accented characters. However, I'm not attempting to sound Texan here.
I should also say that I have borrowed rather a lot of words from the book. So Bram Stoker wrote a lot of these words, then I put them in a different order.
Lyrics
I may be rash and hasty You may not judge me well I see you raise your eyebrows At the tales I like to tell
I know I may be rough And there's little I can give I maybe have not lived the way A man ought to have lived
But by all that I hold sacred and by all that I hold dear I swear that I'll be faithful and I swear I'll show no fear Knife in hand, I shall not give an inch I shall not flinch I shall not flinch
I may walk a lonely path Between here and kingdom come I may go on in darkness But I know what must be done
For face to face with evil If we fail, then he must win Do we stand or shrink from duty? I tell you: count me in
'cause by all that I hold sacred and by all that I hold dear I swear that I'll be faithful and I swear I'll show no fear Knife in hand, I shall not give an inch I shall not flinch I shall not flinch
May we give thanks to God! Our trial not in vain With a dagger through the heart The curse shall pass away
By all that I hold sacred and by all that I hold dear I swear that I'll be faithful and I swear I'll show no fear Knife in hand, I shall not give an inch I shall not flinch I shall not flinch I shall not flinch I shall not flinch
I say Bram Stoker would be proud about the word rework, @edwinb . As for Quincey, indeed, quite important is he. I can see him writing/singing this as the main song in a new theatre play, taking on that deed by way of the Crew of Light. Great job here, man! Thoroughly enjoyed this song creation.
