The skirmish prompt of lookout/look out reminded me of a true story I saw in some videos recently. #filk

Three seasons I do wander But summers I call home A US Forest Service Lookout High above the mountain loam

A packrat isn’t evil But they cause a swift migraine Dissecting every houseplant, bedding, Cords with zero pain

And boy are they hard-to-evict Transporters of disease Who cause massive amounts of damage If they do not leave

To shoo him out the door, I think I’ll take him by surprise Before nightfall, that would be good Ideally, he’s alive

He’s stubborn and uncouth, oh, I just know he’s in the stove But I can’t get him to peek out Or show on video

I’m trying to annoy the dude And flesh him out with sticks I’m tapping at his hidey-holes I’m smacking at the bricks

He tried to jump into my bed That’s when I grabbed the broom It’s basically a treehouse here There isn’t extra room

The dog’s been zero help, p. s. She seems more scared than me The rat and I now facing off Over some gnawed debris

BRIDGE I’ve worked with bears I’ve braved Alaska I fight fire with brains And now I fear my tiny home life’s Circling the drain

Finally, a trap snapped at The hour of 4 AM My dog still shivering in fear But that rat’s out, not in

I really hate how it went down but I’ve been burned before Two years ago, pack rats Destroyed my van and so much more

And I did try for several days to get him safely out the door!
