hi! i started FAWM. with some friends, namely @ericdistad and @fireball. and still organize it 23 years later. thanks for being a part of this musical experiment.
i've been gradually manifesting a preference for 4-stringed instruments and might try a whole FAWM with just ukuleles, mandolins, bass, and tenor guitar/banjo. well, those plus keyboards, drum machines, and various percussion. π
science nerd + pop music junkie who grew up in the bluegrass, went to school in the tundra, and now i live in steeltown. i've been in bands in all of those places.

hi nick! i donβt see a record of your donation in either PayPal or Stripe. however, you gave such a generous extra donation after FAWM that iβve gone ahead and given you super fawmstar status! feel free to donate again if you wish, itβs up to you. happy sprinting!
as for AI and songwriting β man, i think thereβs so much potential, and i have some personal projects i hope will graduate to βrealβ public tools some day. but iβm kind of taking a break from the field right now since itβs overwhelmingβ¦.
Hey Burr. Thanks for making this happen my friend. Planning to have a bunch of fun with this "experiment". Who knows, maybe it will catch on. ;)
haha, thanks and have a great sprint, JW!
Hi Burr. Thanks so much for creating and sustaining this place that means so much to me. Love listening to your cassette collabs.
thanks eric! have a great sprint!
Hi Burr, at the end of FAWM, I mailed a copy of my 4 track recording zine to the FAWM PO box. It came back undeliverable in May. Is this address correct ? I sent it to FAWM, LLC PO box 5642 Pittsburgh, PA 15206
oh no! sorry to hear that⦠the address is actually:
FAWM, LLC PO Box 5042 PITTSBURGH, PA 15206
the box number appears to be wrong. π
itβs also on the help site (although buried, we donβt have a βcontactβ page) and at the bottom of the email blasts.
thanks for trying, i honestly have been keeping my eyes peeled for your zine since february when iβve checked the box!
edit: if you try again maybe write:
FAWM c/o Burr Settles PO Box 5042 Pittsburgh, PA 15206
weirdly although itβs registered in FAWMβs name, the USPS online portal tells me my name is in the βofficialβ address. so that might be part of the problem. iβll do my best to fix it in the meantime...
Thanks I'll resend it this week! I previously tried DMing the FAWM Instagram page about this but the message is probably languishing in some message request folder or something
thanks! yeah, i currently βrun" the socials on top of everything else and donβt have the bandwidth for DMs. π¬ looking forward to the zine tho!
I figured that was the case. I just popped the zine in the mail!
yay for song sprint! thanks for all you do to provide this lovely space!

I think it worked...
Yay! π
Hi there, I tried to donate this morning, and I think it possibly went through but after it seemed to process it kicked back a message asking for me to fill in my email address. Can you check for me?
Also Iβm in the AI advisory group for the US Senate. And if ever there was a need for sycophantic answers from a machine, this is not it. Never mind. I am working on creating a framework for AI to help develop structure of a song. I do the same thing every time so I thought that might be a good use. But the harder part is Iβd like it to check for cliche, showing rather than telling and other compositional and structural errors. It doesnβt write lyrics, just tells you they suck.
I read your paper on language learning and predicting errors, but there really is no place like Duolingo for lyric writing. If you have hints or tips and would like to share, let me know.
