Liner Notes

Written this morning from around 7am. Video hacked together from around 9am. An experiment that was supposed to be an ambient track, created by picking chords through throwing a couple of dice.

Okay, so a lot of cool things about this. I have so much to say. I immediately heard your song and thought of “Halcyon and On and On” by Orbital. So I was immediately hooked.

I think if you got that from tossing a couple dice at some chords, then you need to go to Vegas and win big, because you won big here. It was relaxing and enjoyable and the video was cool. I also liked at the end the text about being a dragondreams experiment. I know that’s not about the song, but given the context of throwing dice, it was just cool.

Way to go dude! Thanks for the relaxing 4 minutes and 33 seconds. I really enjoyed it.

Off we go! Whatever place this music is describing, I think I'd rather be there than here. It sounds relaxing, but also a little bit unpredictable and ready to keep you on your toes. This is lovely. The dice chose well :).

Great piece, very relaxing. That dice really went your way! I remember doing this sort of dice oriented song writing exercise in school as a kid. Was very fun back then. Maybe I should try this too. Great start.

Yeah!! That's what I'm talkin about!! So creative... especially the dice chord choices!! Takes me on a journey. Great job on the mix, its excellent on my system. The vid is well matched to the tune and it's amazing you put that all together so fast!!

Ooh bloody hell you’ve made a video too! #overachiever. Mmm it’s like if the Shire was in Space. Shimmering gorgeousness. I am zen ❤️

You are very kind. 😄

@cts

First thing that came to memory were trips to the planetarium during my elementary school years. Loved those experiences. The visual here compliments your soundtrack perfectly. PERFECTLY! I'm taking notes on this, too. I'm taking notes on a lot of things. Good to have you here Double D!

So good to see you here, my brother. :-) And thank you for the kind words.

What a beautiful composition. And I love the accompanying video. So cinematic. I love the haunting sounds with the recorder. I really loved this.

@max

What a nice Milky Way stroll that was. Thank you for that.

just curious how the dice worked...was it standard dice? 1 is the tonic 2 the ii chord etc. and the second die chord type? 1 is major 2 minor 2 diminished etc? idky but this is fascinating while i drink my coffee. this could be in any number of my favorite movie scores...something epic...with exploration...i'm a trekkie so i'm just picturing nebulas, gas giants, and stars going by like specks of dust...so the video fits...i didn't watch it first go-round, i wanted to pay attention to the music so now that i'm editing i thought it was funny so i left this bit in. lol. it's dangerous, but rewarding. positively lovely.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments! The dice were from a gaming set. I used an 8-sided and a 4-sided die. There were a couple of other parameters I set for myself too. I realised that I rarely write anything in C, so decided that this was going to be... in C. :-D But I used the 8-sided die to determine the mode and it came up with a 3, so I went with C Phrygian. Then the 8-sided die gave me the chords: 1 = Cmin 2 = Dbmaj 3 = Ebmaj 4 = Fmin 5 = Gdim 6 = Abmaj 7 = Bbmin 8 = back to Cmin The 4-sided die was for spiciness. Aug, Dim, Maj7, Leave as is. I "cheated" a little and messed with some of the voicings to avoid the chord changes jumping around too much by suspending bass notes here and there, so for instance, the second chord in the piece is Eb major over a Bb bass. Similarly, the fourth chord in the progression is Ab major over a C.

I found it an interesting way to get my backside kicked into gear this morning. :-)

I love that! So clever. You’re a genius and your music always moves me. Thanks for the breakdown I may need to try something similar…sounds fun.

@jinx

This is such a cool Cage-ian approach to composition. Lovely mystical sounds.

[pic]

Very lovely , love the flute _ I can feel my eyes getting heavier, this is music in embrace and sink into!

[pic]

What a lovely way to awake on the first of FAWM. The recorder sounds so plaintive and evocative.

[pic]

Thank you, Mr Ductapeguy. I really appreciate that.

[pic]

Nice - sounds much less random than I would have thought, coming from dice throws! Very calming.

[pic]

Oh this is so nice. Loving those ethereal synths and flute, they really suit the mysteriousness of that randomised progression. The whole thing reminds me of a 21st century Faure or Debussey study. Beautiful. What a treat for the first day of FAWM!

Thank you so much. 😄 I really appreciate your time and comments.

A little symphony! Love to listen and watch the video! Usually i‘m a bit frightened watch videos in space, but zhis one was diffent because of your warm music! Plus i love ambient tunes and the flute is a poetic instrument full of lightness ! Enjoyed this very much!

You're back! The sound and visual treat goes together well, it could almost be a sound track to a Star Trek episode. It sounds whimsical at times....
