Looking for a Heartbeat
Liner Notes
I promised myself I wasn't going to post any live phone demos this year, but I've got a rotten cold and the studio is half an hour away, so by turning round and trudging home I probably saved some old dear on the bus from catching the cold. Think about that when you're reeling from the appalling sound quality.
Anyway, zombies in love.
Lyrics
When we were alive you never knew my name But now you know, we're both the same Down in the alley, up there on the hill Screaming all night, daytime so still Walking this world from west to east We're looking for a heartbeat Dying, dying, dying for a feast
Do you remember the first time? I think I do On a big brass bed made for two He was crying out your name like a lover would It was the taste of love That tasted so good. Now give us war or give us peace We’re looking for a heartbeat Dying for a feast.
Looking for a heartbeat Feeling the heat Skin to skin? Just give me the meat Walk with me darling on your own two feet It won't be long until we eat.
One day when we're hungry The living are all gone We'll meet again by the pile of bones Look into each other's eyes One last time Then you have your fill And I'll have mine
Until that day comes, it's you and me together They can run but we can walk forever Can you feel it? It's flooding the air Could be blood or maybe just fear Screaming down the streets Or lying in their beds Is this not heaven? Darling we're better off dead.
Comments
A tender love song to start! Great lyrics, and the piano lines are really fine. Good job!
Very moving. Thanks for sharing this. Got a real vibe goin' on here.
Actually I was going to comment, before I read anything you typed, that the ghostly saloon piano is so perfect as a choice for the ghoulish scavengers.
Love the chord changes, especially that one 3/4 of the way (line 6?) to the hooky, hooky, hooky, delivery of finish lines.
Great stuff here -- clever lyrics (as always!) and the payoff line at the end made me laugh out loud -- I'll never hear "better off dead" the same way again! Love the jerky repetition of "dying, dying" etc. And I wish I were creative enough to come up with the idea of a zombie love song...
