02. Friday Night Lights

Liner Notes

#PopPunk #Pop

2nd track for FAWM this year, I wanted the first actual track to come in strong, so I channeled some pop-punk as I do and brought in some whiney vocals and lyrics to sort of set the stage for the songs to come.

My partner and I met in high school, and while now we're slowly but surely getting older and older, we still remember the younger and more angsty versions of ourselves. Translation: we've seen each other at our worst.

Nowadays, with a little bit of maturity and a healthy dose of Humble Pie and Reality, I couldn't imagine going through life without her. We're doing Life together, and she makes this miserable world feel like it's worth fighting for.

If you're tired of the mush by now, turn back. It's only gonna get worse.

#NoAI Everything here was made either with my old Yamaha keyboard with a USB out (the drums on most of my stuff are done that way) or through MIDI in Mixcraft.

Lyrics

Verse 1: I noticed A pattern: The ending, It shatters,

And all I ever do Is try to loop it back. But then I

Found it, A best friend. A focus. You're pulling me

Out onto the streets of Our quiet town, Making all the places That I think of now, When I think of you.

Pre-Chorus 1: I know that's how The story goes, You and I, and all we chose.

Chorus: Let's go

Preaching to the choir Inside our head that sings, That pretty chorus line:

"Keep your head down, And keep it together, One of these days, You might get better."

Searching for a reason To carry all that weight, Each and every time.

"Some of these folks Make it look so lifelike, Dying through the week For the Friday Night Lights."

Verse 2: We started As "Just friends", Air quotes, Two kids

Scared to open up For anybody else, but

I know you, And you know me. We gave it up Just to be

Hiding in your house Playing D&D, Singing Queen in the halls By the vending machines again.

Pre-C2: I swear that's how The story goes. No matter how far you felt, You were close.

Let's go

Preaching to the choir Inside our head that sings, That pretty chorus line:

"Keep your head down, And keep it together, One of these days, You might get better."

Searching for a reason To carry all that weight, Each and every time.

"Some of these folks Make it look so lifelike, Dying through the week For the Friday Night Lights."

Bridge: I know I've written songs About you, But I think I'll write some more,

And the more I think about it, The more I need to scream and shout it Out that you were moving mountains, Throwing coins in city fountains, Wishing all your pieces could be true.

Let's go

Preaching to the choir Inside our head that sings, That pretty chorus line:

"Keep your head down, And keep it together, One of these days, You might get better."

Searching for a reason To carry all that weight, Each and every time.

"Some of these folks Make it look so lifelike, Dying through the week For the Friday Night Lights."

Super-catchy and full of hooks. This is a great song! I love the half time in the pre-chorus and bridge.

This is so catchy! "Air quotes" gave me a chuckle. The backing vocals are phenomenal as always, your highs are incredible. I really love the percussion in the bridge & outro!

Well this is definitely a memorable melody. I had this playing but then walked away but it kept going in my head! I like how the vibe is nostalgic yet present all at the same time. Time definitely doesn’t slow down, I’m also feeling that shift in my own life

Wow total shift from the first song, I'm trying to do something on my album as well. Everything from piano and strings to full out noise rock. I'm also doing a bit of a "concept album". Meaningful lyrics here, this is great. Reminds me of early The Killers a bit now. Looking forward to hearing the rest.
