Made Up Words
Challenge: MADE-UP WORDSLiner Notes
Got a lot of family stuff on my mind this week as I process the fact that my last living grandparent (my Mom's mom) will probably be shuffling off this mortal coil soon. The last time I lost a grandparent was over 6 years ago, when my Mom's dad passed away...but really, I'd lost him long before that, and not because of his dementia. This song is about him.
Kind of a sideways take on the weekly challenge, but it's where my brain went this morning so I went with it.

Lyrics
You wouldn't call me by my name Acknowledge I existed You said that I had made it up And needed God's assistance To recover the salvation You were certain I had lost In the eyes of your religion Joy wasn't worth the cost
But we are made of made up words The language we create To find common understanding And even though you hate it when Some words are unfamiliar And you fear what you don't know We invent the definitions For what's written on our souls
You thought that I had shut you out So I could live in sin You didn't understand why I Would walk away from kin Couldn't see it wasn't me Who chose to do the leaving All I'd ever asked of you Was that you would believe me
'Cause we are made of made up words The language we create To find common understanding And even though you hate it when Some words are unfamiliar And you fear what you don't know We invent the definitions For what's written on our souls

Awww, friend. Hugs. Love, love, love the way you talk about language in this. It's so true. "We are made of made up words" gorgeous sentiment. Thank you for sharing. Love the gentle melody and the soft guitar. Really beautiful sonic mood to go with the words.
beautiful lyrics and very relevant. melancholic and atmospheric <3
Beautiful work. Its hard to say goodbye to someone who already isn't quite there.
