The name of this band is Baghdad. The music self-identifies as Punk. Current influences: Get Down Services, Yard Act, The Lovely Eggs., The Television Personalities
Improvised live to tape at the Old School Rehearsal Room, New Bradwell, England. Vocals added after the fact at Cashpoint Towers, London, England.
This is something we came up with on the day that seemed to work in that we both liked it but the weird yelping Backing Vocals (which is me to trying to find a melody on the spot) threatened to spoil it. Andy titled the 'The Experiment.; Writing the words, I felt I couldn't ignore those little howls, so wrote about the process of trying to write a Joy Division-esque song. I despise meta-lyrics generally but I like this one!
Lyrics
This is an experiment To sound like joy division Don't expect it will go well From your howls of derision
Sounds much more like Warsaw or Punk band from third division - The Cortinas, Dictators, or dare I say, Television? At least we try, we'll beam with pride at our artistic vision Even if were operating from a false position
Just ignore those tuneless, ghostly wails that you can hear We are sorry also not sorry for invading your ears Just pass them off as skinny ghosts screaming down the years Or maybe improvising wildly with no good ideas
Whatever’s going on back there? Is it that we’ve been hacked By an 80s experimental Japanese noise terror act? Bleeding through the soundscape, it's an ugly artefact Capturing Ian Curtis’ sound is hard and that's a fact
So instead we've reached our end, a difficult decision, to Terminate experiment with brutalist precision Clearly we require some extra adult supervision Turns out there's no need for yet another joy division
Wonderful! Love the rhythmic sound the flanger (I think) added to it, and the lyrics made me smile throughout
