- London UK
David Taro spends most of his life in a box room in South London either doing his day job in publishing (boo!) or writing and producing music (yay!).
Genres: #indie #pop #rock & #blues
Influences: the Beatles, Randy Newman, Tom Waits, Elton John, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, The Band, Aimee Mann, that kind of thing.
Over the years, I've come to the realisation that all I really want to make is something that sounds like it was done in the 1970s. The impossible dream continues...
5/9 notes: 3 July 2026
I was a bit ambivalent about doing this song sprint malarkey. I haven’t done much writing since FAWM, tonnes of life stuff going on, pretty busy over the two weekends… but, now it's here I have that same weird creative itch I always get in mid-January 😂
So I’m going to dive in, but with a few self-imposed rules that I’m hoping will make it feel different to just a super condensed and manic FAWM:
Writing. I’m going to bash out as many as I can in the limited time I’ll have available! Quality control be damned. Recordings. I’m not going to attempt any big productions. This will be acoustic, lofi, largely one-takes with minimal overdubs. Lyrics. Will be rushed and therefore horrendous. I guess I can come back and re-write any that I want to develop further. Guitar. I’m going to experiment with tuning my guitar down several steps. Hopefully that gives any songs I make during 5/9 feel cohesive. And I think it’ll force my brain to write in a different way too. Collabs. With apologies, I’m going to focus entirely on doing as many solo tracks as possible. Normal service to be resumed next February! Listening. With further apologies, am going to prioritise writing and recording during the sprint. Then all in on the listening for as long as the site is open after that.

Mr Taro is in the house...sweet. Looking foward to hearing your music.
Hi David. Like you, I've been unproductive since FAWM. I spent so much energy in February that I found it hard to get motivated afterwards. I'll be happy if I get a couple of songs in the Song Sprint.
I hope to listen to whatever you invent because there's nothing as pleasing as a David Taro number.
Howdy David - hope you have a fun week and looking forward to hearing your new creations!
Good to see you here at the starting line, David. Im always excited to hear your new material.
Hi David, hope you are well and prospering
