Anything but guns*

NSFWLiner Notes
I first drafted this in September. Today I made some edits, added the addendum and recorded it.
Lyrics
Kinder eggs, trans-athletes, DEI and ESG Abortion, the word ‘gay’, vaccination mandates Gender-affirming care and books - what’s going on down there? The US will ban anything but guns The US will ban anything but guns
Children are fodder from the fourth trimester on And blessed with thoughts and prayers when they’re confronted by a gun Free speech is a right unless you speak against the right The US will ban anything but guns The US will ban anything but guns
Washrooms, pronouns, TikTok and the media Electoral districts, refugees and immigrants School food programs, condoms and diaphragms The states will police anything but guns The states will police anything but guns
Children are expendable from first postnatal breath Only armed with thoughts and prayers when confronted by gun death Free speech is a right unless you speak against the right The states will police anything but guns The US will ban anything but guns, because America loves fetuses and county fairs and pedophiles and billionaires and sexism and racism and guns
Here’s an addendum I never thought would see the sun They killed Alex Pretti And said it’s cause he had a gun He had a legal permit The NRA has lost their shit The US will ban anything but guns*

This is so great - sounding all light hearted with such a damning and serious message. And yes, fantastic addendum
Such a powerful message Cyndy and resonates with a song I'm working on myself called colours of the world. and the addendum is so great. Conveys such a vivid picture of an upside down culture and ours (UK) is similar in many ways. Fabulous.
I can't wait to hear it!
sure seems that way from here! This is the way to give a message. very listenable which is what you want!
Yeah, sort of sneak it in... :)
This is BRILLIANT! You have perfectly captured the ROT that festers in the right-wing of the USA! I feel your song is even more powerful because of the gentle, almost peaceful style of your performance! Your technique of listing the good things the right hates and then contrasting that with the refrain about their gun love is super effective in making your point! And you have compiled a complete list of the progress we've fought for that is being wiped away. All this in a very coherent set of verses with a refrain that quietly shouts about their hypocrisy! And, as you may have guessed by now, I agree with everything you've written! It is hard to write a protest song. But you've done it. And you've done it brilliantly! Much love and kudos to you!
Thanks @johnstaples. Keep up the fight - it has to stop, doesn't it?
This is great. That is all. Okay, maybe I'll say a bit more :). There's something about the gentle delivery constrasting with the powerful and angry lyrics that I just love. We need to keep shouting and singing these things.
Thanks @edwinb. I am a quiet protester. So much respect for the loud ones.
Hell yeah! I love how the melody is sweet against the lyrics. I also loved the playing with the key in the third stanza.
Didn't expect to need to add that :( crazy times.
I heard this in an earlier form but you have polished it into a pretti good song. I admire the way you can package hard truths in such a pretty arrangement.
It's hard to find that balance. Your song really found it!
Yes! Powerful truthful words <3
For eerie, disappointing times.
You've built such an extensive list of anything but guns. The irony just keeps coming. Like Leslie says, the light touch brings it across so effectively.
