Liner Notes

I've had a stressful morning so I felt like doing a shouty instrumental track. Can instrumentals be shouty? I reckon so. This all came about because I used the most "ping" like sound I have, the "Rubycon Psychedelic Piano" patch in Arturia's glorious Mellotron V emulation, as the first instrument I recorded. Guitars are my Squier Strat and Ibanez RG770. Bass is my JayDee Roadie II; synths are all Korg M3.

The #MovieQuote is from John McTiernan's gloriously preposterous 1990 romp, The Hunt For Red October.

Indeed it can. Shouty and strong. Easy to be swept away in the dreamlike composition. Well played.

What hit me immediately here is your sense of melody. We've never chatted about musical history much. Have you had formal teaching, or has this developed through practice and your clearly execptional ear? Put it simply, I always hear notes in your music that I'm sure don't exist on any of my guitars... 🀣 For a chap that was planning on having a bit of a quiet day, you've really rather excelled with this number. It's just top-notch πŸ‘πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

I think the responsibility for my melodic approach to things can be laid unequivocally at the feet of a certain Mr Allan Holdsworth, although John's invocation of Rick Wakeman is bang on, too...

Stormy, strong and tight!

That ending reminded me of the film "Twister" when they're driving over the hilly terrain directly into the path of the tornado.

in answer to your question "yes" which is an apt answer as the track slaps off like a wakeman piece. Gee this really has a wakeman (solo) feel to it - very journey to the centre of the earth feel! That makes it a winner for me! it certainly is shouting out to me. Really love this !

The interplay between the shouty chugging guitars and the operatic synth's is really sweet.

Instrumentals can be shouted, but let's say this track moved with purpose. I liked the drums in particular, always feeling like there was a drummer in the room, not artificial loops. Great guitar playing and sounds πŸ‘

Man, I always love the playing and the production on your tracks, and this is no exception! So good. I too have the Arturia Mellotron but I don't know that preset, I'm gonna have to check this out!! Nice guitar leads and everything else is just right too!

@andyt13

I 100% heard the title in Sean Connery's voice LOL Nice tune! I'm thinking that maybe for collab you'd like me to do vocals on one of your instrumentals or so? This has such great sounds!

That has groove. Love it.

Dare I say many of your instrumentals are shouty? There's something very bold and outspoken about them. This one has such a great groove to it, it's so propulsive. The synth builds are so good, and the guitar solos are so smooth. Gives me some Rush vibes. Love the way you strip it back before the final build. Great construction.

@sbs

Shouting with instruments! Love it! Maybe it will catch on…

Great vibe in this. I can hear hear and see Ramius in this music.

@aeye

love it. Short instrumental but a really great instrumental. Great use of space in the mix.

Oooh, there is just such a tasty collection of tones here, across both the synths and guitars. Great tension in the chord builds. Ooooh, and harmony guitar leads! Now I need to change my shorts. 😍

This is super cool on lots of levels, I really dig it!

Entertainingly, I've sampled Sean Connery in my last tune, he must be in the ether. Just re-watched Red October a few weeks, it's so much fun. #iwouldliketohaveseenmontana
